"As a year 10 student, the junior high program changed my life. I was in a hard place spiritually at the time and I honestly credit KEC of 2004 with changing my life. I came back to volunteer when I finished school to be that encouragement to the next generation of kids."
1. How long have you been coming to KEC?
My first convention was when I was 3 months old! I've only missed one year since, so 2017 will be my 28th convention.
2. What team do you volunteer in?
I previously volunteered on the Junior High team (2007-2015), but have just switched to Infants! (2016-present).
3. What does the work involve?
Teaching the kids about Jesus, singing songs, doing craft, serving morning tea and overall ensuring all the kids have a fun, safe and encouraging time away! When I was working on the junior high team, our goal was to encourage and help deepen the teens relationships with Jesus and with each other.
4. What is your most memorable moment at KEC?
It's hard to pick just one! As a delegate it was definitely my time spent in the junior high and senior high programs. As a volunteer, definitely the fun and fellowship myself and my volunteer colleagues have had over the years working together! Many a laugh has been had working with like minded servants of Christ.
5. Why do you volunteer at KEC and why should delegates consider volunteering?
As a year 10 student in the program myself, the junior high program changed my life. The volunteers at the time who gave up their weekend to teach me about Jesus, and their passion for the gospel, was so encouraging! I was in a hard place spiritually at the time and I honestly credit KEC of 2004 with changing my life. I came back to volunteer when I finished school to be that encouragement to the next generation of kids.
It's so encouraging to share the gospel with the kids in junior high, to seem them grow in their faith, then come back and volunteer with you! That's a huge highlight, and why I'd encourage anyone to volunteer. You will never know where God needs you to serve over the weekend or what work He will do through you! Don't be afraid to come and volunteer thinking you don't have the skills - I know that God will use you regardless!
